Spirits were high at the third annual Social Media Day Detroit event held last Saturday at Motor City Casino Hotel’s Sound Board venue.
Themed “Detroit 2.0,” this year’s event celebrated the rebirth of the city, showcasing local businesses and entrepreneurs that are making use of social media to spread their messages, drive their growth, and build lasting relationships with the community.
And it was quite a celebration! Hoards of enthusiastic young Detroiters flocked to the scene with their gadgets and gizmos in hand.
Patrons lit up the screens with their #SMDay #Det Tweets projected from a live feed on stage.
Throughout the event, DJ Diallo kept the music bumping and the party jumping.
Vendor’s booths lined the walls of the room. There was plenty of swag to be had – from t-shirts to sunglasses, stickers to posters – they did not disappoint.
Among the vendors were ExactTarget, Livio Radio, Channel 95.5 FM, Quicken Loans, Detroit Venture Partners, Quizzle, the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, Yelp, Alp Music, Bizdom, Campus Commandos, Fathead, Party Armor, Core Detroit, Social Media Club Detroit, Hire Starts, Picket Report and Lava!
Autographed Red Wings and Tigers memorabilia and other prizes were awarded throughout the event as well – some for answering trivia questions, some for killer dance moves, and some just for showing off your favorite mobile apps!
Bridging the gap between face-to-face and digital relationships is not always easy, but Social Media Day Detroit 2012 proved to do just that. The celebration was a great success!
